The song was written by American Pentecostal gospel music composer and singer Geron Davis (b 1960). It is based on Genesis 28:17.
It was originally published in 1983 by the Meadowgreen Music Company.
The chorus is sometimes used by itself as a short worship song.
It is set to an unnamed tune, also by Davis. This has a 4/4 time signature. In the key of C, the first few notes of the chorus are C E G_ G_ G G A A AG_ with accompanying chords C / G7 / C / F / C.
It is not the same as (This is) Holy Ground by the Christopher Beatty.
