Cry Hosanna

This book was edited by Betty Pulkingham (1928 - 2019) and Mimi Farra, who were both members of the charismatic Anglican Community of Celebration, and leaders of The Fisherfolk, Celebration's outreach music ministry.   It is a sequel to their earlier books Sounds of Living Water and Fresh Sounds.

It was published by Hodder and Stoughton Ltd of Kent, England, and the first printing was in 1980. Printing was by Lowe and Bydone Printers Ltd of Norfolk, England.

The book includes 142 songs, three are in Latin, 134 in English, and the rest in a mix of English another language, eg English and Spanish.

The songs are grouped into nine sections:
  • Songs of praise and thanksgiving,
  • Songs of worship,
  • Songs of hope, vision and wholeness
  • Songs of the Kingdom
  • Songs of faith and victory
  • Songs of Outreach
  • Songs for children
  • Psalms

The book also contains a topical index, worship leader's guide, guide to the use of additional instruments (many songs include parts for these), notes for guitarists / accompanists, discography as well as an index of first lines and song titles.  There are also gesture drawings showing hand/body movements to accompany many songs.

The cover was designed by Cathleen Morris.   The book is spiral bound, slightly larger than A5 size and has 258 pages.   The ISBN is 0 304 25159 X.    It is now out of print:  second hand copies are sometimes available from Amazon and second-hand shops.

A CD featuring 14 songs from the book is still available from the Community of Celebration website.
