It was written by American evangelical concert pianist, song-writer and music-minister, Otis Skilling (1935-2004), and first published in 1971 by Lillenas Publishing Co, USA.
There are two different sets of words for the verses: it's not clear if Skilling wrote both, or if the latter ones were added by someone else. The original words make the song especially appropriate for weddings, as well as general worship.
The song is set to an unnamed tune, also by Skilling. This has a 4/4 time signature. In the key of G, the first few notes of the melody are B,B, D DD E E E D_ DD G GG B G A_ with accompanying chords G / C / G / Em / A7 / D.
