Israeli Mass setting

This folk-style Mass setting is based on the ICEL-73 English translation of the Catholic mass.  It was published shortly after Vatican II allowed Catholic services to use local languages.   As was common at the time, the link between the official translation and this version is loose, and only a few parts of the Mass were set to music.   In this case, the words are described as being adapted from the liturgy by Anthony Harmon.

It is set to a tune that is attributed as "traditional Israeli melody, collected by Anthony Harmon".  No further details have been located, about the melody,  or about Anthony Harmon.   If you have any information about them, please leave a message at the bottom of the page.

The setting is probably not widely used any more.  Some people say that it has been retired and should be forgotten.   Nevertheless, it was widely used, is still used occasionally, and is still sought by people looking for what they remember, or for actual information about early post-Vatican II music.   And this page was inspired by a request from a website visitor who is serving a particular elder community.

Kyrie

Lord have mercy, Lord have mercy, Lord have mercy on us all.
Lord have mercy, Lord have mercy, Lord have mercy on us all.

Christ have mercy, Lord have mercy, Lord have mercy on us all.
Christ have mercy, Lord have mercy, Lord have mercy on us all.

Lord have mercy, Lord have mercy, Lord have mercy on us all.
Lord have mercy, Lord have mercy, Lord have mercy on us all.

Sanctus

Holy holy, holy holy, Lord of power, Lord of might.
Heaven and earth are filled with glory,
Sing Hosanna evermore.

Blest and holy, blest and holy, He who comes from God on high
Raise your voices, sing his glory
Praise his name for evermore.

Agnus Dei

Lamb of God, you take away the sin,
the sin of all the world.
Give us mercy, give us mercy,
Give us mercy Lamb of God.

Lamb of God, you take away the sin,
the sin of all the world.
Give us mercy, give us mercy,
Give us mercy Lamb of God.

Lamb of God, you take away the sin,
the sin of all the world.
Grant us peace Lord,  grant us peace Lord,
Grant us peace for evermore.
