Ephesians 3 (This then is my prayer)

This is a hymn about finding interior strength through faith.  It is based on Ephesians 3:14-21.

It was written by English Roman Catholic religious (De la Salle) brother, Damian Lundy (1944-1996).
It was originally included in Songs of the Spirit Volume 1, published in 1978, and later in Hymns Old and New Catholic 2009 edition - the latter is the only located source of sheet music.

The song is set to an unnamed tune written by English teacher and writer Gerard Markland (b 1953). This has a 4/4 time signature. In the key of C, the first few notes are E E GE D_ C C EC A,_, with accompanying chords G and Am7.

Chorus:
This then is my prayer,
Falling on my knees,
Before the God who is
Father and source of all life.
May He in His love,
Through the spirit of Christ,
Give you the power to grow strong
In your innermost self.

1 May Christ live in your hearts ...
And may your lives rooted in love
Grow strong in him.

2 May you with all the saints
Grow in the power to understand
How he loves you.

3 Oh how can I explain
In all its depth and all its scope;
His love, God’s love.

4 For his love is so full
It is beyond all we can dream;
His love in Christ.

5 And so Glory to Him Working in us,
who can do more
Than we can pray.

See more ...
