Love (If I am lacking love) - Lundy

This hymn is about love. The words are based on 1 Corinthians 13 "Love is patient and kind, slow to anger ...".

It was written by English Roman Catholic religious educator and youth worker Damian Lundy.  It was included More Songs of the Spirit, edited by Lundy and published by Kevin Mayhew Ltd in 1981.  It was included in some editions of Liturgical Hymns Old and New, but is not in Catholic Hymns Old and New, 2009.

The song is set to an unnamed tune, believed to be of South American origin, with was arranged by Michael Irwin in the original publication. This has a 4/4 time signature. In the key of F, the first few notes of the melody are C F_ GFG A_ A B_ AGF E_ with accompanying chords F / Am / Gm / C.

The lyrics are copyright so cannot be reproduced here. But they are currently quoted in this discussion forum. A rough outline is:
Chorus:
If I am lacking love, then I am nothing Lord,
On love I set my heart, my joy and my reward.

1 Without love my words ring hollow,
My intentions are disgraced,
All my sacrifices empty,
Ev'ry hope and pray'r misplaced.

2 Love is patient, love is kindly,
Never jealous, never proud;
Not conceited, nor ill-mannered,
Never selfish, never rude.

3 Love is gracious and forgiving
Taking no delight in sin,
Love rejoices in the truth,
Will not lose heart, will not give in.

4 I know love is everlasting;
Other gifts will pass away,
Only faith and hope and love,
Will never die, will ever stay.

5 God is bountiful in giving,
All His gifts are my desire,
But I set my heart on love,
May His love set my heart on fire.
