God, Father, Praise and Glory

This is a hymn of praise to the Trinity.  The words are based on a German hymn, Gott Vater! Sei Gepriesen - author unknown.

It was translated by  German-American Roman Catholic priest and historian, Fr. John Ernest Rothensteiner (1860-1936) in 1936.

With meter 76 76 with refrain, it is set to the tune GOTT VATER SEI GEPRIESEN from Limburg Gesangbuch (1838).

Other translations of the same German-language hymn include O God Almighty Father and  Sing Praise to our Creator.

Lyrics

Traditional language

God Father, praise and glory
Thy children bring to Thee.
Thy grace and peace to mankind
Shall now forever be.

Chorus:
O most Holy Trinity, Undivided Unity,
Holy God, mighty God, God immortal be adored!

And Thou, Lord co-eternal,
God’s sole-begotten Son,
O Jesus, King anointed,
Who hast redemption won.

O Holy Ghost, Creator,
Thou gift of God most high;
Life, love and holy wisdom,
Our weakness now supply.

Modern English

God Father, praise and glory
Your children come to sing.
Goodwill and peace to mankind.
The gifts your kingdom brings.

Refrain:
O most Holy Trinity.
Undivided Unity;
Holy God, Mighty God.
God Immortal, be adored.

2. And you, Lord Coeternal,
God's sole begotten Son;
O Jesus. King anointed.
You have redemption won.

3. O Holy Ghost, Creator
The Gift of God most high;
Life, love and holy wisdom,
Our weakness now supply.
